Town Quarry car park
Work to stabilise the quarry face at Town Quarry car park is soon to begin, ahead of which the vegetation must be removed to enable the repairs. Works will commence as soon as the legal agreements are in place, and we will update as soon as this is confirmed.
Working hours will be between the hours of 7am and 6pm,Monday to Friday, with some weekend working, however noisy operations will be restricted between 8am and 5pm.Temporary fencing will be installed to give our teams a safe working area, and access to some car parking spaces will be restricted while the works take place.
What works are taking place?
To provide access for the repairs, we will start by clearing vegetation from the quarry face using roped access and elevated work platforms.
This will be followed by the drilling of rock pins and anchors, in to the quarry face, which will address the slope instability. This is an essential part of the works, but it can unfortunately be a noisy process. We will not commence drilling before 8am each morning.
Following this, sections of the rock face will have geotechnical netting installed, to further stabilise it.
The site team will be based in a compound located within the carpark.
Please be assured we will do all that we can to minimise the disruption to the local community and residents.
We will need to restrict access to some sections of the carpark, to provide a safe working zone for our workforce, and to allow large machinery to access and exit the site.
For everyone’s safety, please observe the signage in place.
Emergency access will be maintained at all times.
Our work sites can be dangerous places. Please do not enter the working areas. This is restricted to authorised personnel only.
Suitable barrier systems and signage will be in place to safely separate pedestrians and vehicles from hazards and to provide a safe route around our works.
All our sites will be appropriately risk assessed and have strict safeguarding measures in line with
current health and safety and Public Health England guidance.
The timetable for works of this nature can be subject to the unpredictable influences of weather.
If this situation arises, it may result in works taking a little longer and we will do our best to update the advance notice boards on the site.
If there is an issue which is a threat to public safety, please telephone
0300 1234 222 (24 hour service) giving details of the location
This stabilisation work has now been delayed until later in the year. Completion of legal agreements and wayleaves took longer than originally anticipated, and although they are now in place, we are too far in to the bird nesting season to begin. We will continue to monitor the sloped area with safety in mind, and carry out further ecological studies throughout the summer, then look to start the work at the end of the nesting season. This is likely to be in October. Thank you for your patience.
Work to stabilise the quarry face at Town Quarry car park will begin later in the year, once the 2022 bird nesting season is over. Completion of legal agreements and wayleaves has taken longer than originally anticipated, and although they are now in place, we are now too far in to the bird nesting season, which runs from March until September. We will continue to monitor the sloped area with safety in mind, and carry out further ecological studies throughout the summer, then look to start the work at the end of the nesting season.
In the meantime, we will be working alongside the environment team to ensure that when the work does begin, all appropriate measures to preserve the wildlife are taken. The existing barriers will remain on the outskirts of the car park until work commences.
