Britannia Inn Roundabout and Cypress Avenue.

Work is to begin on a number of pedestrian and cycling focussed improvements, to upgrade the footway between the Britannia Inn Roundabout and Cypress Avenue. Discussions are also taking place with Cornwall Council regarding the continuation of the improvements further along Par Moor.

Designed to make it easier for everyone to enjoy Par on their bikes and on foot, the project includes the construction and widening of the footway to accommodate cyclists, a pedestrian crossing, and enhanced surfaces, paving and markings. Cormac have been appointed to carry out the works, which are expected to complete towards the end of March 2022. The majority will be carried out during the daytime, under multi-way traffic lights on the Britannia roundabout, followed by two-way traffic lights along Par Moor, with sections of the existing footway temporarily closed whilst improvements are underway. Footway Diversion routes will be in place for pedestrians.

Project update 20/01/2022

Three-way traffic lights were installed at the Britannia roundabout from today, in readiness for the footway improvements to begin. Unfortunately this resulted in exceptionally long queues of traffic on all arms of the roundabout and much frustration amongst motorists. To that end we’ve removed the traffic management, allowing the traffic to flow as normal, and we’re now reprogramming that phase of work to be carried out at night time.  

In the meantime, we’ll progress with the other phases in order to keep things moving, whilst carefully monitoring any impact on traffic flow.
