Porthpean Road Junction
Cormac will soon begin improvement works to the Porthpean Junction on the A390 Polmear Road. Commencing Monday 8 November for around ten weeks, the project will include the relocation of the existing Toucan crossing, traffic signals and central islands on the eastern arm, to a newly formed signalised junction and right turn in to Porthpean Road one-way system. A new footpath will be created in the existing verge, including tactile and corduroy paving, and wildflowers and bulbs planted in the grass verges.
The pavement will remain in use for pedestrians whilst the improvements are underway and temporary traffic signals will also be in place. As you’ll know this is a busy road with a high traffic and pedestrian flow which it’s important we maintain, so during the busy school periods the temporary traffic signals will be manually operated.
The works will include some excavation and the cutting of kerbs and paving slabs, which you can appreciate can but quite noisy. We will be using dust suppression techniques and acoustic barriers in an effort reduce disturbance to those nearby. Access to properties will be maintained throughout, as it will for emergency vehicles, and our working hours will primarily be between 7.30am and 5pm. A short period of night-time works may be needed later in the programme, but we will update you nearer the time if and when this is confirmed.
Do please keep in mind that adverse weather conditions can sometimes cause delays to construction phases, but we will do our best to complete in mid-January 2022. If you have any queries or concerns, or would like to speak to someone about these works, please call 0300 1234 222 or email us at email@example.com
Update 29 November 2021
We wanted to let you know that the above works are progressing well and on schedule. The ducting for the Western Power cabling on the Porthpean Road & the A390 (towards Mount Charles roundabout) has been installed, and the crossing point on the east and west sides of Porthpean Road has been excavated, ducting completed, and kerbing installed. Tactile paving will follow there next, together with installation of the retention sockets for the new traffic signal poles.
The new south eastern crossing point (A390, towards Mount Charles roundabout) is underway, with excavation and removal of paving also complete. In the coming fortnight we’ll continue with the two crossing points, as well as creating the south western and south eastern footways, and preparing for the decommissioning of the existing traffic signals.
On 6 December the existing pedestrian crossing and lights will be removed and replaced with temporary signals. A temporary crossing point within the traffic management will be installed with those temporary signals. They will be manually operated during the busy school periods, in an effort to maintain the traffic flow and allow the children to cross safely. The footways remain diverted around the work areas for pedestrians whilst the improvements are underway.
As always, we’re very grateful to everyone for their patience whilst these works are underway and will continue to do our best to keep any disruption to a minimum. If you have any queries or concerns, or would like to speak to someone these works, please call 0300 1234 222 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
