Taking care of our green spaces

Prislow Fields Gi4G

At Cormac we don’t just look after our highways. Recently we’ve been busy making space for nature by transforming unexciting grassy spaces into beautiful sanctuaries for people and wildlife.

We are the principle contractor for the Green Infrastructure for Growth (GI4G) project, which leads the way in improving open urban spaces and forms part of the Council’s environmental growth strategy. The project has so far improved the conservation status of at least 40 hectares of habitat in urban areas across Cornwall.

This has been delivered across 30 sites, community hubs and spaces in Camborne, Pool, Redruth, Penzance, Bude, Saltash and Hayle. The benefits identified by the project include:
• Improving the wildlife value of an area equivalent to 35 rugby pitches
• Increasing accessibility to open spaces for all
• Providing opportunities for outdoor lifelong learning
• Increasing community engagement in positive green space management

The project is a great example of collaboration between Cormac and Cornwall Council. The next stage is delivery across a further 6 towns in 2020.
