Cormac Fleet and Facilities Management teams are maintaining and cleaning buses on the new Transport for Cornwall bus network.  Cornwall Council recently awarded the eight year contract for Transport for Cornwall (TfC) to Go Cornwall Bus, a subsidiary of national company Go-Ahead, to deliver a network of Council subsided local bus routes which are essential to local residents.  TfC deliver around half of bus services in Cornwall.

To support this new contract Cormac Fleet and FacilitiesManagement is opening a new modern workshop facility at Newquay Business Hub. This workshop will maintain the Go Cornwall Bus fleet as well as a range of other vehicles for existing and new customers, all under one roof.

The safety of passengers travelling by bus is of the utmost importance. This is particularly prevalent during the current coronavirus crisis, and the team play a vital role to make sure key workers and the residents of Cornwall can safely travel to and from their place of work.

Cormac uses an eco-friendly, chemical free and safe cleaning system at the new workshop facility, as well as at several other facilities. It is an innovative new system that is proven to kill 99.9% of all known germs and bugs, including the Covid-19 virus. The system it uses is from Tersano and it simply pumps normal mains water through a unit with an electrical charge, turning the water into a bug-killing solution. It is harmless to humans, animals and the environment.

All vehicles are cleaned regularly with Tersano, particularly areas that are most commonly used, such as doors, seats and handles. Bus drivers and the teams at the depots are also given the cleaning solution for use when they need it to spray down their local working areas. Cormac Fleet also keep the buses on time by providing regular safety inspections and reactive maintenance services.

Al Hoare, Corserv Central Services Director, manages the Fleet and Facilities Management teams said: “We are proud to be one of the few companies in Cornwall to offer an extensive and fully integrated vehicle maintenance and cleaning service. We are working hard to keep the travelling public safe by using the Tersano cleaning system across all our vehicles and facilities. In addition to enhancing our cleaning regimes, we are also protecting our customers and colleagues by following the latest Government guidance, such as putting social distancing measures in place. We will be working closely with Go Cornwall Bus to ensure that we deliver exceptionally high standards in our service, as well as exploring any additional services for the future.

Richard Stevens, Managing Director of Go Cornwall Bus said: “Go Cornwall Bus are excited to be part of this new innovative partnership in bus maintenance and cleaning. Partnership working in this way draws on each parties strengths to enable the best outcome. Passenger and staff safety is always our number one priority. Something in the current climate we have had to adapt to new ways of working. Working with Corserv allows us both to make sure all our vehicles are clean, safe and well maintained.
