Level 3 Civil engineering technician
Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship with Cormac?
To learn the industry and gain a qualification in a field I inspire to progress in.
What does a typical day look like in your role?
To design a project within a budget, overcome individual barriers and problem solve to make it all work to aid general public from highway issues. A mixture of onsite experience to office based with variety of team/in person meetings.
What is your favourite thing about your apprenticeship?
To learn and improve my knowledge each week and put my knowledge I’ve learnt in my course for day to day working experiences.
What skills and experience have you gained as part of your apprenticeship?
I’ve learnt how to become more professional in my field with a huge variety of skills which I didn’t obtain prior to this course. I learned how to use computer design systems to design my project and make them easy to follow for the grounds team to complete the work.
What has been your proudest moment during your apprenticeship?
From starting my career on the tools then becoming a Highway Inspector to then progress onto a Highway Steward to now as a Highway technician whilst completing my course. My proudest moment I’m aspiring to is to gain recognition by the ICE and achieve my ENGtech which the course gives me the opportunity to achieve.
What advice would you give to someone considering an apprenticeship?
Do it! It gives you so much potential and unlocks opportunities during and after the course!
