Civil engineering Level 3
Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship with Cormac?
I admire the thought of the environment that Cormac take through their work and how they are a well trusted company, also I am Cornwall born and bred so it is nice to be able to work within the county. It is generous pay for my age, and they look after their employees well. Also, a very good pension scheme.
What does a typical day look like in your role?
I am currently part of the PRO team and am based in Scorrier, I am mainly office based but some days I have site visits as we deal with a lot of the minor works. I create Works packages for the gangs, mainly to do with the installation and repair of street name plates.
What is your favourite thing about your apprenticeship?
The opportunities that are beyond me and the experiences my team have already indulged me in.
What skills and experience have you gained as part of your apprenticeship?
I am a lot better with my IT skills than I have ever been, as office jobs are very based around the use of computer systems I have naturally become a lot quicker within the systems.
What has been your proudest moment during your apprenticeship?
Not sure what my proudest moment is yet, I guess it could be getting the job as it was my first ever formal job interview, my next proudest moment however will be when I win the Apprentice games at Cornwall college on the 7th of Feb!
What advice would you give to someone considering an apprenticeship?
Go for it, there are so many opportunities and different paths you can take within Cormac/ within Corserv. There is always a next step, and you can keep on climbing up the ladder. Everyone wants to help out and I am yet to meet anyone who isn’t helpful.
