G7 Investment to Cornwall

30 June 2023

A fantastic opportunity that will showcase the best of Cornwall on the world stage

Newquay Airport

We recently had confirmation of significant investment into improvements at Cornwall Airport Newquay in preparation for the arrival of world leaders for the G7 Summit this summer.

We have been awarded over £7million to enhance areas such as the runway and apron (where the aircraft are parked). Cormac and our Facilities Management teams will be undertaking the work, which will act as a legacy for years to come.

Throughout the extensive due diligence around the scheme, the Government was impressed by the skillsets within the Corserv Group which show our flexibility, agility and opportunities for collaboration. It puts us in an excellent position to deliver this exciting project for Cornwall Council.

The G7 Summit is a fantastic opportunity that will showcase the best of Cornwall on the world stage. The Airport is pivotal to welcoming future investment and tourism, bringing with it opportunities for growth by attracting new business that will benefit from this modernisation.

This is a brilliant result for the Group, as we continue to show what we can achieve by working together to improve the lives of people in Cornwall and the benefits we can bring to Cornwall as one Group.

Pete Andrew, Chair of Corserv, said: “We’re incredibly proud that the delivery of these works and the wider G7 logistics will be a real Cornish team effort, bringing together the skills and expertise of our colleagues at Cormac and Cornwall Development Company, supporting local jobs and allowing as many colleagues as possible to contribute to the success of this once-in-a-lifetime event.

“In addition to ensuring that world leaders arriving for the G7 Summit can touch down on Cornish soil, this investment will unlock unprecedented long-term benefits for Cornwall Airport Newquay as it emerges from the pandemic and sets a new course for a sustainable future.  As well as improving the efficiency of aircraft ground movements through the commissioning of new aprons and taxiways, it paves the way for us to welcome the next generation of aviation and aerospace businesses, Including Project 2Zero, which will be among the first to make use of these enhanced facilities when it begins pioneering trials of electric and hybrid commuter aircraft right here in the South West under the Government’s Future Flight Challenge.”
